Location: Ride On, Penzance

Unit 11, Wharfside Shopping Centre, Penzance TR18 2GB

Wharfside shopping centre is likely seen by locals as a neglected little pocket of potential in the heart of Penzance town. With striking views overlooking St Michael’s Mount, the once lively shopping complex is brimming with possibilities for greatness. And who better to kickstart the journey to rediscover what the space has to offer, than the team at Ride On. The E-Bike hire company has become the pioneer in the town’s mission to unearth the sparkling atmosphere in the Wharfside unit.

The shop is constantly pumping out new initiatives to provide an exciting and vibrant space that not only offers E-Bike rentals and sales, (for the perfect transport around the Cornish coast) but now a licensed bar and coffee outlet! I was lucky enough to attend the soft launch of the shop’s new ‘Handlebar’, and was served up a specialist concoction of a bespoke Handlebar Pina Colada. Put simply, it was absolutely delish!

Offering flat whites at the unbelievable price of £2.80; a selection of teas, smoothies and protein shakes throughout the day, Ride On has got hydration covered. Whether you are returning from a lush day of scenic cycling, or simply need a pick me up as you peruse around Penzance town, Handlebar is the place to hang out! But, don’t be fooled by their laid-back daytime vibe. As the evening approaches, and the mood changes, Handlebar swaps out the bustle for a magical sundown boozy buzz…

Presenting quality cocktails, a gorgeous selection of Shoals Brewery canned larger, and even Prosecco, there’s something to satisfy the lot. Handlebar is quickly becoming a dreamscape of low prices and good vibes, where every drink is served with a smile.

All this drinking is likely to kick your appetite into gear. So, with places to sit and enjoy some grub, either indoors or outdoors, Handlebar is a BYOF situation! Why not go and support some of the local restaurants around Wharfside, and bring your takeaway back to the grooviest pub on the high street?

Just down the road, to the left of the Handlebar, you can find the Thai Moon, alongside the Cork and Fork restaurant – for just a couple of ideas about where to source your solids for the eve! Take em’ back to the Handlebar, where you can enjoy the easy listening tunes and joyful atmosphere inside the shop! And, If you’re lucky, there might be a Wii Sport tennis tournament to get involved in too!

Handlebar should be one for the list if you’re heading down West Kern… But even if not, check out Ride On for some seriously awesome electric bike fun in the sun, and a lush little drink in their wicked bar this summer!
