June 15th – Father’s Day – and what a better way to celebrate than with some lush views of the Southwest coast and a bitta fish? With a cozy interior, fresh menu and incredible cliffside scenery, Swanpool’s Beach House is the place to check out for that chilled Sunday lunch with people you love.
Even on a slightly overcast day, Beach House didn’t fail to brighten the atmosphere with their seasonal seafood dishes and laid back ambiance – our family lunch was oh so delectable!
With options galore, we hit the wine list first, and paired our food with a beautiful French Picpoul De Pinet. Such a cheeky treat, but only right for our fishy feast.
Despite there being five of us at lunch, our starter selection was small, given how captivated the majority of us were by the sound of the Falmouth Bay Scallops, with seaweed, hazelnuts and garlic butter. Let me tell you – they certainly impressed.
Served exquisitely in their shells, these beauties were gone in seconds and were easily a standout of the meal for me. A trio of flavour sensation and we couldn’t get enough.
Looking plump and tasty, the Tuna tartare with bonito mayonnaise, kohlrabi and soul farm leaves was the other option for starters on our table. Beautifully presented, but equally quick to disappear. If anything, the starters left us doubly hungry for more delights that the kitchen could offer!
I’m big into bread, and was super excited to see the rosemary focaccia with an anchoide dipping sauce on offer on the menu. Although slightly on the chewy side for focaccia, the flavours were banging and I really loved the accompanying sauce. Can’t beat a wedge of bread at the start, I must say.
But alas! On to mains we go…
Looks bloody awesome. Tasted even better.
Each dish arrived with a hearty portion size which we could all appreciate, and meant there was plenty of opportunity to have a little taster of all three of the table’s choices.
With three of us opting for the Lobster risotto, oregano and aged parmesan, this was a pleasure to try. Smooth and delicious, if you’re a fan of this classic Italian rice dish, there’s not doubt you’ll love the Beach House edition with Falmouth Bay Lobster and stacks of flavour. Yes!
Next up, one of us selected the fresh fettuccini with Porthilly clams, garlic, parsley and chilli. So much clam goodness here, that was so tasty and lively in it’s flavour. Pasta is a firm favourite for most and I’d recommend the Beach House fettuccini for a special course that won’t disappoint!
Finally, we arrive at the star of the show. Jam packed with zingy flavours and bursting with meat to work for, the whole Falmouth Bay Crab, chilled with aioli, was something quite magnificent. Matched nicely with the sea salted skinny fries, each bite only seemed to get better and better! The lemon was a lovey addition that drew out the fantastic fishy flavour. Incredibly fresh, delicately sweet, and perfectly cooked, it was a meal I won’t be forgetting for a while!
So, if all of this (and so so much more) sounds just pure lush to you, I’d definitely approve of a trip to Beach House for a luxury spot of dining. You can simply soak up the charming sea views, or better yet, get yourself down to the beach afterwards and you can dip in the refreshing Swanpool waters. What a dreamy dining experience!
