For a tapas style dinner that’s fabulous and gorgeous to taste, and very reasonably priced, I have been going crazy for EZPZ in Penzance. Situated halfway down the prom, this dinky establishment packs a mighty punch when it comes to the foodie wonders that it has to offer!
Choose to takeaway, or to sit in, and enjoy the effortlessly cool atmosphere that EZPZ loves to create. With Mediterranean and seafood small plates to choose from, the growing business is truly thriving in their delivering of beautiful food to hungry visitors.
The menu at EZPZ is on a hot rotation, with new dishes popping up all the time, but the sample menu of their regular selection is always there to choose from. I really love the restaurant’s intention to keep the specials board fresh and exciting, and having been on a few occasions now, it’s always fun to check out what’s looking lush on the specials!
It’s worth noting as well – EZPZ are open for roast dinner from 12-7 on a Sunday, and while I am yet to try, it sounds absolutely banging! With options of slow cooked beef brisket, crispy belly pork, garlic thyme chicken, or your trusty nut roast, it sounds like a heavenly Sunday feast for everyone.
For us though, on our Wednesday evening hunt for some good grub, tapas from the weekday menu was ready to satisfy all of our wildest, hunger-driven desires… What follows is what can only be described as a 6-part unboxing of pure joy. So strap in.
We must of course begin with the tapas showstopper – patatas bravas. So perfectly coated in a smokey, tomatoey sauce, and creamy, slightly spicy, garlic aioli, these potato cubes were too easy to pop into the mouth and demolish without a second thought. Seasoned generously, and with scatterings of spring onions, two portions of these almost didn’t feel like enough. This potato dish simply cannot be beaten.
Given its status on the specials board, I ought to address these courgette and basil fritters next. Admittedly, I am not the biggest fan of courgette, and met these scallywags with trepidation. But oh how wrong I was to judge! Fried so elegantly, and elevated by the simple squeeze of a lemon wedge to add the acidic hit, these fritters were divine. Not to mention the saffron aioli, which was the ideal dipping combo for this super special dish. If it’s on offer when you pop in for a visit, I would defiantly recommend a taster… Even if courgette is not normally for you!
Whitebait is a firm favourite of mine on any occasion, and EZPZ offer a delicious and sizeable portion that is crispy and flavoursome! Served with a paprika aioli, pink pickled onions, lemon, and spring onions, these beauties are full of lovely spices and fishy flavour that tastes just divine in the buttery aioli.
To complete the half-dozen selection, we finished off with the charred tenderstem broccoli, with salsa verde and feta, along with the sea salted, skin-on fries (obligatory). The tenderstem was so juicy and scrumptious, and worked so magically with the richness of the feta. This one was a faultless number, and a superb addition to the tapas picks of the evening.
Finally, the EZPZ fries impress me each time I try em, and this trip was no exception. Salty, golden, fluffy strips of potato goodness, you can never go wrong with adding the fries to your small plate selection at EZPZ.
This place is a real gem in Penzance, and with simple ingredients, the restaurant is offering elaborate and delectable dishes, that defiantly warrant a tasting if you’re around West Cornwall.
