Sula Brunch House, Gweek

Sula Brunch house, Gweek classic boatyard, Helston TR12 6UF

Nestled deep in the peaceful terrain of Gweek, and open everyday to serve a beautiful brunch, Sula is my new favourite hidden gem of the South Coast. With its rustic-chic exterior that exudes an immediate cozy atmosphere, this place is the village’s enduring treasure. Whether its a miserable winter’s day, and you’re looking to hunker down somewhere snug, or to enjoy the riverside views in their beautiful backyard garden that serves as the ultimate sun trap. Whatever the weather (and the brunch desires), Sula is a spot that’s certainly worth a suss out.

With every dish on the menu sounding fantastic, we took some time to mull over each and every option. As a meditation inspired cafe, this place has some real feel-good food on offer. And, having only just opened in May of this year, the menu is fluid, and exciting new dishes are being added on the reg! The space is thoughtfully designed with an artisanal flare that creates a relaxing atmosphere, making it such a good spot to meet with friends and catch up over a lovely coffee.

Talking coffee, this one really hit the spot – creamy, dreamy luscious coffee. Beautifully presented, and in a sizeable mug (ideal), this coffee was faultless – if you’re coming to Sula simply for coffee and cake, it certainly won’t disappoint.

Quick honourable mention to the wicked cake selection at Sula – it’s beyond heavenly for those post-meal sweet treat cravings. Trust me!

If coffee or hot drinks aren’t your go-to, Sula had some epic sounding smoothies avaliable too, and we even tried this lemon and passion fruit iced tea. Refreshing and bright with a subtle sweetness, this was a gorgeous alternative to coffee, and a great side to the foodie selection!

On to the divine plates of brunch galore, we begin with an extravagant golden stack of sweet, fluffy pancakes. These little delightful discs of goodness were filling in all the best ways, and jam-packed with a maple, almost caramely flavouring. The 5 stack baked buttermilk pancakes are not for the weak, and with four topping options to choose from, the vanilla mascarpone and berry compote was surely a successful decision. A mega pairing with a smooth coffee on the side!

Next up, it’s time to tackle the savoury! And this beauty exceeded all expectations. The halloumi hash stack consists of crushed rosemary salt potatoes, coriander and green herb oil, crumbled feta, corn salsa, halloumi, fried egg and micro herbs. Simply put: a plate of pure sunshine. This one really rocked, and with herbaceous and aromatic favours, the plate combined all the right textures and tastes all in one place. A definite recommendation for your Sula visit.

Dressed up just as elegantly, this next dish- the House Breakfast- included sliced avo on toasted sourdough, with dill and parsley olive dressing, poached egg, smoked streaky bacon, balsamic dots, and micro herbs. One hell of a house brekki that’s for sure! A wonderfully fluffy sourdough with each topping component cooked perfectly, and presented in the most pleasing of ways. Makes for the blog pics, and tasted pretty knock out too!

For the final dish of the day, it would’ve been wrong not to get involved with the Sula Cooked Breaky, which combined all the essentials for a banging start to the day. Cornish sausage and smoked streaky bacon, with a poached egg, slow cooked beans, sourdough toast, hash brown, garlic mushroom, and roasted cherry tomatoes. Boom! Delightful. For an additional 1.50 you have the option to add any extras you could desire, and there’s also the choice of making the dish either vegan or veggie to suit all dietary preferences. There’s not much beating a classic like the cooked brekki, and Sula sure does it good!

With this and lots more to get your chops around down Sula, this one is a sure recommendation from Full Of It. Get over to Gweek for a bit of a peace retreat and a whole lotta great food!
